Qualifications
My first job, after graduating from Law/Economics at Monash University near the close of last century, was in tax at one of the (then) Big Six accounting firms - KPMG. I have worked as an expert tax advisor in some capacity or other ever since.
My passion for continuous learning soon led me to a job authoring technical training materials for the pre-eminent tax training business of the time – Webb Martin. In the mid-aughts, together with a like-minded tax professional and business partner (also a friend), I took the leap to starting the first (of three) of my own businesses.
I am very proud of what my partner and I created – a boutique tax training business (called Practising Tax) in which we worked hard, learned a lot, but most of all had lots of fun.
Throughout my nearly 25-year long career as a tax professional I have written thousands of pages of technical tax content and presented hundreds of hours of tax training. I have developed a detailed knowledge of Australia’s federal tax system and its application to a wide variety of taxpayer scenarios. The vast amount of technical tax training material I have produced and presented over that time has been used as a trusted source of development and support by countless tax agents in their work providing tax agent services to their clients.
I am now enjoying the next phase in my career as a tax expert - providing specialist tax consulting and training services to accountants, lawyers and other advisors of SMEs and family groups.
I continue to thrive on the fact that tax never stands still and that there is always something new to learn. I enjoy the challenge that comes with unpicking the problem, finding the answer and formulating a solution that, most importantly, makes life easier for my client. But above all, I love the relationships I have built throughout my career in the tax profession.
My career in tax has, and continues to be, a rich and rewarding journey.
